My Mission & Philosophy

My mission to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer all began in 2012 while I was working as a Personal Injury Paralegal. At the time, I had recently just moved to Charlotte, NC from South Florida and was working on my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While on my lunch break one day, I read a Yahoo! article about the best "up and coming medical careers." One of the options just happened to be sonography. That day, the seed was planted, and when I got home from work I began my research into the sonography occupation. This is when I decided that this would be my passion! In the past, I had always sensed that I wanted to work in the medical industry. I really enjoy helping people and approach life both academically and personally with the optimistic outlook that I could do just that.

Prior to attending SPCC, I graduated from John I. Leonard High School in Greenacres, FL. After that, I began taking classes at Palm Beach State College where I received my Associate of Arts Degree. At this time, I decided that I was going to major in clinical psychology. After I received my Associate’s, I thought it would be a good idea to attend a larger school, so I transferred to Florida Atlantic University where I continued to work towards my Bachelor’s degree. About a year after this time, life threw me a curve ball and I decided to move to the Carolinas. This is when I also decided to switch career paths.

Being that I am a kinesthetic learner, I tend to learn best through experiences and a “hands on” approach. Therefore, learning to scan came naturally. Throughout my schooling I have  always excelled in science, so the switch into Diagnostic Medical Sonography and learning anatomy has been a smooth transition. What I have continuously struggled with in school was history. Lucky for me, the details of the civil war have nothing to do with completing a right upper quadrant ultrasound!

I approach my life, both socially and academically, in a very strategic way. I am an extremely ambitious and organized person and almost always have a list of “to-dos” for the day. While school, work, my faith, and family are always at the top of my priority list, I also enjoy weekend getaways with my friends and spending time outdoors. To me, achieving a work/life balance is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

My philosophy as a registered Medical Sonographer is to treat each and every patient as an individual. My personal mission is to do my best with every case to create a diagnostic study for the radiologist while providing the patient with excellent care. Using the experience and knowledge that I have acquired over the last three years, I am confident that I have blossomed into a healthcare professional who will make a daily difference in the lives of many patients.
